Your Dream Home
Lately I've been thinking about where I might like to live and even more so, what I might like to live in. Here are some of my current thoughts on my future dream home:
- Incredibly thermally and space efficient design - I don't like paying utility bills so I want this place to operate on the cheap!
- Fairly open floor plan with ample space and amenities for entertaining - I know this may conflict with the bullet above but with some multi-purpose space and good design, I think both goals can be accomplished.
- Excellent build, fit, and finish qualities - I'd rather have a smaller, nicer home than another McMansion.
- My own alternative energy source or sources - I'm leaning towards solar (both hot water and electric panels) and a vertical wind turbine.
- Super efficient and high end appliances - LED lighting and an incredibly well equipped kitchen
- Green roof and/or rain water reclamation system
Some other things I would like to have or do on the property:
- Aquaponics - make use of hydroponics and raising fish to grow some of my own food.
- Biodiesel - setup my own biodiesel refining facilities
- Large garden - grow more of my own food
- Man's garage - build the ultimate garage to play in and to store the toys
- Large plot of land - lots of space to play with the family friends, toys, and pets (bonus points for a pond, stream and woods)
